About Brian Palmer

Brian Palmer studied Art at school under RB Talbot Kelly and DJ Watkins Pitchford ("BB") and at 17, won the British Travel Association Poster Prize.

His career then took a different turn, and after many years as a Sunday Painter, he was able to go to Art School. Starting at Sir John Cass, then at Middlesex, he finally took an Honours Degree at what is now the University of Herts.

Since then, he has exhibited widely, including being selected on several occasions for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. With his colleagues in Tripod, he has shown at The Affordable Art Fair for the past seven years.

Brian works in many media, but is perhaps best known for his "Lifelines". "Lifelines" are large dry point etchings, hand tinted by the artist, with poems (often haiku) also by the artist himself. They are not poems illustrating pictures, or pictures illustrating poems, but a combination of both, as a song is of words and music.

Brian also makes many figurative prints, monoprints, and oil paintings.

"My work is about the joy and sorrow, light and shade, and fact of being alive. Consider the alternative. Its intention is to strike a chord in the viewer's emotions, and to convey the maximum of artistic meaning with the minimum of artistic means"
