About Brian Tutt's work
Brian Tutt's work is often steeped in an ambiguous atmosphere where his imagination has transformed an observed place, figure or object into a unified painting, the meaning of which is open to interpretation.

Many of the paintings use challenging compositions and moods to express a tension, uncertainty and an unresolved ed narrative quality. Even in an apparently straightforward landscape or still life, there are signs that the artist has played with different levels of reality.

Some of Brian's more recent work presses up against the borderline between highly edited realism and abstraction.

Testimonial

"…….the work engages one in a serious way from the very start. First impact; taking it all in; puzzlement; searching; excitement from a careful study of the 'empty' areas. There is a lack of detail where a lesser person would have put it in; great atmosphere. - Perhaps some uneasiness or threat lurking in the extraordinary space created; you have to smile and who smiles under threat?

Altogether really thoughtful stuff."
